Forgy Mokalapa Events of Honor
What Does Your Company Do?
Forgy Mokalapa Events of Honor (Pty) Ltd. is an events company that hosts seminars aimed at uplifting the community and empowering both young and old people, and both men and women. So far, Forgy Mokalapa Events of Honor ( FMEH) hosts #Buildawoman Annual Women Empowerment Event which has been taking place once every year since 2016 in Mpumalanga and recently in Limpopo and Gauteng too. We also host Ligotshwa Lisemanzi Career Awareness & Mentorship Program which is an event aimed at exposing high school learners in eMbalenhle township in Mpumalanga to the different career fields that are available and assign them mentors that are already in the fields they wish to be in. Our recent initiative is #Buildaman which was launched in March. It is a project aimed at empowering men and providing men with a platform where they get to speak about issues they are faced with but never really get to talk about because of societal stigmas and unnecesary expectations.
What is your Biggest Success?
Out biggest major success was when we hosted #Buildawoman 2nd Annual Women Empowerment event and we had 112 women attending the event. The 1st annual had less than 50 people so having such a big number was a great success for us. Even more when we realized that almost every one that attended the 1st annual came for the 2nd Annual and brought a partner. For me this meant that they really were touched by the event and they saw the need to come back for more and even invite their friends to come experience the event.
What has been your Biggest Hurdle?
Out biggest hurdle has been and still is securing sponsorship for the events. We literally have to depend on my own pocket and from ticket sales. On the day of the event, everyone leaves the venue empowered and fuelled up. We leave the event with financial setbacks and worried on how we are going to pay everyone. I am really passionate about what I do but it can be stressful when the impact is done but I have to deal with financial problems afterwards.
